Do a Riding, Part Two

By Robert Beveridge

There is a roomful
of boxes to be folded,
a cabinet filled
with cumin to be
ground. The shampoo
awaits the family
silver, the cat eyes
the wastebaskets
that need to be emptied.
Groceries and laundry
must wait, the spiders
have sued for armistice.
Whether there is chili
to be made depends
on the state of the horse
behind the barn’s lone solid wall.
