Swiping

by Alex Shapiro

Frosted palms clasp the nicked, smudged
silver stall, lift and swing their poised
body clean into stride over the turnstile,
 distressed coat compressing
and poofing back to width upon dismount.

 Leathered fingers fondle
their tattered pass like a poker chip
and press until the screen greens
 in confirmation. Tote bags
 float above the chirping turnstile.
